If you thought the Ref Cam feed on Rogers’s GamePlus was cool, you’re going to love what the NHL is doing next.
The National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players Association has signed a new partnership with GoPro that will see the camera company’s action cams mounted on player’s helmets for a unique in-game perspective. This player point-of-view footage will be captured in HD and incorporated into the live broadcasts of the games.
We’ll get our first taste of the action during the 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend, which kicks off tomorrow, January 23rd, in Columbus Ohio. Players will wear GoPro equipment and the company’s live broadcasting solution will deliver real-time HD content as well as multiple angles on plays for both the All-Star skills competition on Saturday and the All-Star game on Sunday. If you’re too busy to tune in this weekend, you can get a peek at the experience below:
After the All-Star weekend concludes, fans can look forward to more on-ice footage throughout the 2015 hockey season, though it’s not clear how often.
