Revolv has announced that it has been acquired by Nest. The company’s website now displays a splash page confirming the acquisition and revealing that support for current customers will continue.
Revolv’s service allows users to automate all of their smart devices with the help of one smartphone application and the Revolv Hub. The Hub has an array of radios and is compatible with Nest, Sonos, Philips Hue, and more. The app is in the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
All of that is no more, however, as this acquisition is more of an acquire-hire for Nest. Revolv will continue support for existing customers but will discontinue its smart home automation solution. Nest itself has confirmed to Recode and The Verge that it didn’t buy Revolv for its products. The company is more interested in the team of people that built Revolv.
“We are not fans of yet another hub that people should have to worry about. It’s a great team, an unbelievable team,” Nest’s Matt Rogers said today. “There’s a certain amount of expertise in home wireless communications that doesn’t exist outside of these 10 people in the world.”
For its part, Revolv says it looks forward to creating “amazing products” and unifying the connected home through the Works with Nest developer program that was launched earlier this year.
Nest’s acquistion of Revolv closed this morning. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
In related news, Google-owned Nest announced that smart sprinkler system Rachio, voice-controlled home assistant Ivee, moisture detection system WallyHome, and family tracking app Life360 are all now supported through Works with Nest.
