Waterloo’s Thalmic Labs is building up a lot of steam for its Myo gesture-control armband, a combination hardware and software platform that uses the arm’s natural movement to generate digital action. The company released its first batch of developer preview hardware recently, and has put together a couple of new videos outlining some of the incredible use cases for the upcoming wearable.
Working with a variety of companies, from game developers to robotics experts, Myo’s flexible platform has been adapted to work with everything from the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset to a wireless digital camera trigger.
While all the demos are impressive, it’s the combination of two Myo armbands with the Oculus Rift that has us salivating over the potential for combining wearables in holistic and meaningful ways. Using one’s arms as a controller of sorts ensures the immersion from virtual reality is maintained.
