$800 for a tablet? No thanks.

I’d rather stick to my $400 Asus Transformer and use wifi hotspot from my phone to get internet on the go. 3G/4G/LTE Tablets cost too much for the premium of spending more money on a separate data plan.

You guys all make fun of this $400 price which is high but funny enough AT&T in the US thought they could sell this for $699 ON 2 YEAR CONTRACT!

Just read this on Rogers Redborad:
On October 18, we kick off what will be the widest selection of devices with a Rogers exclusive HTC Jetstream LTE tablet, the fastest tablet in Canada. This Android 3.1 tablet boasts LTE + Wi-Fi connectivity, a 10” high resolution touchscreen, 32 GB capacity, and dual-core 1.5GHz processor. Add the HTC Scribe digital pen accessory and you can even sketch, highlight, take notes, or sign documents on your tablet. Rogers customers can reserve this tablet, the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE smartphone, or the LTE Rocketmobile hotspot (Sierra Wireless AirCard 754S) online today at http://www.rogers.com/lte.

Looks like the release date is October 18 for the tablet, and after that for the S2…..

I laughed at how sad the price is. Good luck Rogers trying to get ANYONE (with a sane mind) to buy it from you outright. Robbers.

  • ELNY

Wow…who are they seriously kidding with these prices?? I’m glad I bought my Samsung tab 10.1 @ $499.99 and can just tether it anytime, without paying extra for a data plan.

  • Adam

That is an insane 3year contract price. Outrageous. Good thing I’m not one of the people that are dying for LTE, or tablets for that matter.

  • Jay Jay

$799.99 plus tax?!!! My car cost less……

  • Zirian

That’s Robbers for you. I can use the $800 towards a nice set of rims for my A6

  • rootblock

This tablet dropped in the US for ATT for the same ridiculous price. I look forward to seeing how many of these will sell, and how soon we’ll see a price drop. Not that I’m interested anyway; loving my $399 Transformer.

ow! great service and news from Canada’s leading telecom provider – Rogers.

  • EmperumanV

Really expensive. Not even worth the $800. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G is way better and cheaper.

  • Ewen Cameron

You gotta be kidding me thats why I switched over to telus

  • MER1978

I LOVE my HTC phone + the Sense UI… but… how do they figure anyone will want to spend $800 on a tablet?

Also… I really hope tablet data plans die a harsh death soon… ALL smartphones should be able to act as a WiFi hotspot… and it shouldn’t cost anything.

    • Adam

if you don’t want a 3G tablet, don’t buy, it’s as simple as that.

If you’re downtown, away from wifi, do you really want to pull out your smartphone, tether, burning your battery when you might be away from a plugin? I sure don’t.

Not saying I’m going to buy a tablet with a plan, but ffs people, if it’s not for you, then don’t buy it. Get the wifi only version at full price. Subsidized prices are for those who want a data plan. This isn’t rocket science people.

  • People_are_idiots

ATT did the same thing, perhaps it’s HTC doing (you know, since it’s actually their product).

    Idiots.

  • Big 3

this would be why big 3 lte will have zero subscirbers for a while till they bring their prices down. from already looking at this, would you sign rogers 700mhz petition?

  • TeknoBug

Who else but Robbers, their Galaxy S2 price is silly too.

  • Smitty

Good thing they’re opening their own bank.
