Sony Ericsson reports Q3 results: 14.1 million units shipped, loss of $305 million

sony-ericsson-make-believeSony Ericsson has reported their Q3 numbers and the restructuring efforts, new devices and brand direction seemed to have had a very slight effect. Although they have stated sales for the quarter were Euro 1,619 million (appx. $205 million Canadian), which represents a decrease of 4% from last quarter and a whopping 42% from last year…. they were still at an overall loss of Euro 198 million ($305 million Canadian).

The glimmer of hope is from the 14.1 million units they shipped, up 2% from last quarter, but still down 45% from last year. We just want to see more Sony Ericsson devices in Canada, such as the XPERIA X2, Aino and Satio!

Dick Komiyama, outgoing President, Sony Ericsson said “Our business in the third quarter started to show the effects of our ongoing transformation programme. Having refreshed our brand we are now better positioned to support the launch of new products such as Aino and Satio in Q4 2009. We have cleared channel inventories, and have continued to realign internal resources and improve efficiency. We have also arranged external financing to strengthen the company’s financial position. Transforming the business for future growth and returning Sony Ericsson to profitability is the focus of the senior management team and will continue under the new leadership.”
