Google’s chief game designer leaves company to make games again

Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis - Noah Falstein

Noah Falstein, Google’s chief game designer, has left the company after four years, releasing a blog post regarding his departure on his personal blog.

Falstein says he’s leaving because “the opportunity to actually build the big, consequential games” has “failed to materialize,” during his time at the company. Back in 2013 Google was still the parent company behind Niantic, the studio behind Ingress and Pokemon Go, though the studio was eventually spun off into its own entity.

It seems Falstein expected Google to begin working on more self-developed titles, but that dream never came to fruition, though the tech giant has released small scale experiments like Tilt Brush for the HTC Vive and other titles like Quick, Draw!

Beyond these games though, it seems Google’s gaming aspirations are no longer significant. You can find Falstein’s full statement on his personal blog.

Falstein has been involved in the video game industry since the 1980s and was one of the first 10 employees at Lucasfilm Games. He’s behind iconic point-and-click adventure titles Indiana Jone and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
