iOS 10.3 makes devices ‘snappier’ through an undocumented animation change

10.3 makes iPhone seem faster

Apple’s recent iOS 10.3 update brings an undocumented animation change to iOS devices.

iOS engineer Renaud Lienhart posted a tweet commenting on the animation speed. “iOS 10.3 feels ‘snappier’ because many of the animations were slightly tweaked & shortened, for the better,” says Lienhart, an Apple engineer since 2009.

The animation speeds will feel most obvious when opening and closing apps. According to The Verge even after putting the phone side by side with a 10.2.1 device there are no significant differences. The speed might not be something that users will notice right away however, though overall usage of the phone should be quicker than usual.

iOS 10.3 also features the new Apple File System, designed for efficiency and speed in relation to video processing, flash and SSD storage.
