A recent leak has revealed that Apple is working on a new pair of AirPods that have a built-in camera.
Spotted by MacRumors analyst Aaron Perris, a video file in the latest macOS 26.7 release candidate shows a person wearing what appears to be AirPods, holding a book up to their face. Alongside that, a voiceover in the background says, “With Visual Intelligence, your world becomes saveable. See something you like? Just ask me to save it for later.”

Now, they don’t look any different from existing AirPods models, although the stem of the earbud appears noticeably thicker, most likely to accommodate the extra equipment needed to properly house a camera.
The camera on the AirPods will feed information to Visual Intelligence, and from there, Siri will be able to answer questions about the wearer’s surroundings and log information.
Interestingly, MacRumors also found evidence that Visual Intelligence will be on the AirPods. If hair is covering up the AirPods, you will receive an alert that says, “To get the most accurate information about things in your environment, make sure [the] Airpods are not covered.”
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has also mentioned that the codename for the camera-equipped AirPods is B790. Gurman has suggested that the earbuds could launch as soon as September, so we could see them at the fall Apple event, where the company will reportedly unveil several devices, including the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Ultra.
