In November, Google enabled Quick Share compatibility with Apple’s AirDrop, and now the company has confirmed it will be expanding it to a lot more devices this year.
During a recent press conference, Android Authority learned about the expanded operability from the company’s Vice President of Engineering for Android, Eric Kay. “We spent a lot of time and energy to make sure that we could build something that was compatible not only with iPhone but iPads and MacBooks,” he said. And added that, now that they’ve proven they can make sure Quick Share is compatible with AirDrop, they’re working with partners to expand the ecosystem and that there will be “exciting announcements coming very soon.”
It’s unclear which partners will be getting the new feature. However, Nothing has confirmed that it’s working to get AirDrop, and Qualcomm has suggested it’s working on getting the feature on Snapdragon-powered devices.
Kay also said at the conference that Google will be working on making it easier for iPhone users to switch to Android.
With new Android devices on the way, like the Galaxy S26 series, I’m interested in learning which handsets get the Quick Share/Air Drop capabilities.
