It’s that time of year again. Spotify’s annual Wrapped is rolling out starting today with some new additions that should make it even more fun.
This year, Spotify is amping up Wrapped with a new ‘music evolution’ segment that highlights how your tastes change and shift throughout the year. In an early preview of my own Wrapped for 2024, Spotify highlighted how early in the year I was super into metal, but in October, I totally shifted and listened to a lot of jazz. Since I did go for a solid two-three weeks of October listening to jazz, it was neat to see Wrapped pick up on that.
Wrapped’s music evolution will show up to three phases highlighting shifting tastes throughout the year.
Spotify also infused Wrapped with AI this year, integrating it into AI Playlist and AI DJ. It’ll even drop personalized Wrapped AI podcasts using Google’s Notebook LM tech that generates a podcast about your Wrapped data.
The Wrapped AI podcast will be available in English in select markets, which includes Canada.
Along with the typical music coverage, Spotify is also amping up audiobooks for the first time in Wrapped. Authors will also be able to see audiobook milestones and get listening insights.
Sharing your Wrapped is also better this year, thanks to a new TikTok integration.
2024’s top music
Spotify also unveiled that 2024’s most streamed artist globally was — unsurprisingly — Taylor Swift. It’s the second year in a row that Swift took the top spot. To celebrate, Spotify added a badge to Swift’s page on the streaming platform to highlight her spot at the top, as well as special animations like sparkles that appear when pressing the play button on Swift’s albums.
Toronto’s own The Weeknd took second spot, followed by Bad Bunny at number three. Drake landed fourth and Billie Eilish came fifth.
Moving to the top songs globally, Sabina Carpenter took top spot with Espresso, followed by Beautiful Things by Benson Boone, BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish, Gata Only by FloyyMenor, Cris Mj, and Lose Control by Teddy Swims.
Notably, female artists dominated the top albums this year. Taylor Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY took top spot, followed by HIT ME HARD AND SOFT by Billie Eilish. Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter landed third, MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO by Karol G came fourth, and Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine took the fifth spot.
