One million Canadians affected by Park’N Fly data breach

The company took over three weeks to notify customers of the incident

Park’N Fly has confirmed that the personal information of roughly one million Canadians may have been compromised in a recent data breach.

On Monday, the popular airport parking service said customers’ names, email/ mailing addresses and Aeroplan and CAA numbers were leaked. However, the company noted that customers’ financial information was not affected.

Park’N Fly attributes the breach to an unnamed third party that accessed its network through “unauthorized remote VPN access” between July 11th and 13th. The company says it discovered the incident on August 1st and fully restored security within five days.

However, it’s unclear why Park’N Fly took more than three weeks to report the breach to customers, especially when CEO Carlo Marrello said in a statement that the company is “committed to transparency.” He added that “we deeply regret any concern this incident may have caused” and reassured customers and partners that “we are taking all necessary steps to safeguard their information.”

The company says anyone with questions about the breach can contact 1-844-405-3577. If you’ve ever used the service, it’s also probably worth keeping an eye out for any unusual phone calls or emails, given that this type of information could have been leaked.
