Chick-fil-A, of all things, is the latest company to enter the streaming market.
According to Deadline, the fast food chain is working with “a number of major production companies, including some of the studios,” to create various family-friendly shows. Some of these will include unscripted titles, while others will be licensed or acquired content. One of the titles, reports Deadline, includes a family-friendly gameshow from Glassman Media (The Wall) and Sugar23 (13 Reasons Why).
Beyond that, it’s unclear what these programs might entail. (What would a game show about Chick-fil-A even look like? One shudders at the thought.)
Chick-fil-A is reportedly planning to debut the currently unnamed service later this year. It’s unclear whether the chicken joint plans to offer the platform for free with ads or via a paid subscription. That said, a streaming service from a fast food company is, of course, already a form of marketing unto itself.
It’s worth noting that while Chick-fil-A primarily does business in the U.S., it has opened a few locations across Canada in recent years, including those in Ontario and Alberta. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether this streaming service will be available here as well.
Nonetheless, it’s the latest in a seemingly never-ending stream of fast-food companies doing weird publicity stunts. Canada’s own Tim Hortons has been especially good at those lately, having debuted both a Timbits-focused stage production and a line of pizzas earlier this year.
