Though Apple lumps the Apple Watch in its “Other Products” category when it comes to the company’s financial earnings reports, analytics firms frequently release studies that give us a look at roughly how many units the wearable has actually shipped.
The latest stats from Horace Dediu, an analyst at Asymco, indicate that the Apple Watch has shipped 4 million units in the first quarter of the year. While not particularly impressive on its own, this number doubles Fitbit’s shipped units across the fitness wearable company’s entire lineup, according to a recent tweet from Asymco.

Dediu says that the Apple Watch sold just under 3 million units back in Q1 2017, which indicates shipments are roughly up 25 percent compared to last year. This means that revenue falls somewhere in the $1.2 billion USD range, an increase from $1 billion in the year prior.
Asymco estimates that over 46 million Apple Watches have sold since 2015 and that of these wearables, approximately “40 to 43 million” are still in use. In total, Apple Watch related revenue has amounted to roughly $16.4 billion over the last three years for Apple.
Apple’s most recent wearable is the LTE-capable Apple Watch Series 3. The tech giant also sells a non-LTE capable version of the Series 3. While the Series 3 was generally well-received, some reported that it suffered from LTE connectivity issues, though those issues seem to be resolved at this point.
In comparison, Fitbit shipped just 2.2 million devices in the January to March period, a number that’s below analyst expectations, according to Asymco. Fitbit’s most recently released wearable is the company’s attempt at a more fully featured smartwatch, the Fitbit Versa.
