I still contend that the Nintendo Switch has a tremendous amount of non-gaming potential, especially in the app and streaming space.
So far, however, Nintendo has, for the most part, remained silent when it comes to its future plans for adding streaming video apps to the Switch.
In a recent interview with The Washington Post, however, Nintendo of America COO Reggie Fils-Aime says that this functionality is “being considered,” though he didn’t reveal a solid release timeline for when Netflix will finally land on the Switch.
“We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time,” continued Fils-Aime
“In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.”
“My answer is to look at the games that have been announced and are in development, and that should drive your purchase decision,” said Fils-Aime in his interview with The Washington Post.
During the interview, Fils-Aime also discusses third-party support for the console and Nintendo’s recent emphasis on indie developers.
Early reports indicate that the Switch has sold more in two days in the Americas region than any Nintendo system in the company’s history, though it remains to be seen if the gaming giant can hold this momentum
