With the Switch just three days away from its official launch, Nintendo has announced a large list of indie titles set to hit the console over the course of 2017.
With third-party support still a significant question surrounding the system, Nintendo seems intent on quelling those fears with a wash of indie games.
Many of the announced titles are ports from other consoles, but releasing its 2017 indie plans is a step in the correct direction towards turning the console into the industry’s go-to indie device.
Indie highlights set to hit the console in 2017 include games like the Harvest Moon inspired Stardew Valley and Yooka-Laylee, a game created by members of the original development team behind the iconic Banjo Kazooie series.
Nintendo has created a dedicated internal independent developer management team with the goal improving relationships with indie developers and publishers, an initiative the Japanese gaming giant actually started with the Wii U. News stemming from this year’s GDC indicates that Nintendo has smoothed out the publishing process for Switch titles considerably. Switch development kits are also reportedly cheaper than previous dev kits for Nintendo consoles.
