In another step towards conforming with the terms and pricing of the majority of Canadian carriers, Wind Mobile is planning to cut WINDTab availability for grandfathered plans under $35 beginning June 22.
Once in effect, users who upgrade while still on an older plan below $35 will only get a device subsidy if they move to an in-market plan. If they’d like to keep their grandfathered plan instead, they’ll have to fork over the outright price of their chosen device.
According to a document obtained by MobileSyrup, the company aims to “unify” the WINDTab rules between in-market and grandfathered plans. This process began in March, following its acquisition by Shaw. On March 22, Wind went live with new terms that mirrored the subsidy format of carriers like Bell, Telus and Rogers. Along with that, the maximum tab offering, or hardware credit, for grandfathered plans dropped to $250.
Wind states in the document that existing WINDTab balances won’t be affected for those with an impacted rate plan, but notes that customers in that situation will have to change to an in-market plan in order to qualify for WINDTab.

- 2012 Wind 25 — $25
