The ZTE Axon recently went up for pre-order in the United States and will be coming to Canada sometime this summer. This flagship smartphone features an aluminum build with a 5.5-inch QHD display and an impressive set of internal specs, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage as well as a 3,000 mAh battery. Moreover, this Lollipop powered smartphone will be the first to use Corning’s “Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass.”
Officially announced at CES 2014, this new tech adds an additional layer of protection to a display that is supposed to repel the growth of algae, mold, mildew, fungi and bacteria.
In its release, Corning noted that the 5.5-inch ZTE Axon now has protection from “damage as well as odor and stain causing bacteria.”
Corning’s Dr. Joydeep Lahiri said, “With the rise of touch technology and our constant interaction with people and public surfaces, the microbes on our smartphones are not our own. We developed Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass to address this concern and are excited to see this technology enter the consumer electronics space with the launch of the ZTE AXON.”
While this is certainly one step closer to keeping us healthy, Corning did include a massive disclaimer, stating, “Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass is formulated with antimicrobial properties to help protect touch surfaces from stain and odor-causing bacteria. Corning makes no direct or implied claims to protecting users or providing other health benefits.”
