Fueling rumours of Apple entering the electric car market, the company has hired longtime automotive exec Doug Betts. Apple declined to comment on the specific position Betts has with the company, but his LinkedIn page states his title as “Operations – Apple Inc.,” effective this month
Betts has been in the automotive industry since 1997 and most recently was a Senior Vice President at Fiat Chrysler, and previously held various positions at Nissan, Toyota, and Michelin. Apple has also been busy recruiting employees from well-known auto manufacturers from Tesla, Ford, and GM.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Apple is internally working on an electric-car project that goes by the name of “Titan.” Apparently CEO Tim Cook has instructed the company to create a 1,000-person team with the goal to produce the “Apple Car” for production in 2020.
