In a shocking turn of events, James Moore, Canada’s Minister of Industry, has decided to end his 15-year career in politics. On Friday, Moore announced he will not be seeking re-election.
In a press release, Moore gave his reason for leaving politics, saying, “Balancing family responsibilities while in public life is always a challenge. This is particularly true when you have a child with special needs. Recently my wife and I received some difficult news about the health of our beautiful son Spencer.”
Moore will finish this term as a Member of Parliament for Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam, then pursue new opportunities in British Columbia where he resides with his family.
Moore, 39, took over as Industry Minister on July 15, 2013. He spearheaded several pro-consumer wireless initiatives, such as the “More Choices” campaign that promised to “deliver more choice, lower prices and better service in Canada’s wireless industry.” In addition, he outlined Canada’s digital strategy, reduced roaming charges and lead several recent spectrum auctions.
“I am immensely proud of what our Government has achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Harper, and there is no doubt that Canada is stronger, more united, and more prosperous than ever because of his leadership,” said Moore.
