theScore adds Counterstrike: Global Offensive to its insanely popular eSports app

eSports. Who knew the category would become a multi-million dollar industry? Apparently theScore did, since it invested heavily into a burgeoning market of stats, stories and heroes in order to launch a dedicated app on iOS and Android earlier this year.

Envisioned to cover popular multiplayer games like League of Legends, Dota 2, Call of Duty, StarCraft II and Hearthstone, eSports is a heavily invested industry, where matches are covered in prime time, and broadcast on networks like ESPN. The amount of money, both in prize winnings, endorsements and sponsorships, has been growing at a steady clip.

Today, the company added Counterstrike: Global Offensive to the mix. While I haven’t played Counterstrike in its current incarnation, I spent hundreds of hours battling friends in internet cafes in the mid-2000’s.

Counterstrike: GO fans will be able to track kills, match wins and assists. Take that, LeBron.
