Nest, now owned by Google, recently recalled 400,000 units of its Nest Protect smoke alarms in the United States. The reason given was caused by a technical defect that could possibly cause the device to turn off or fail to sound when the “Wave” feature is engaged. The company declared that the product would be back on store shelves and online retailers within weeks.
Today, Health Canada has stepped in and issued a recall notice for Canadians. The same issue is given, but confirms that “Neither Health Canada nor Nest Labs has received any reports of consumer incidents, injuries or property damage related to the use of these products.”
Nest products are sold at various big box locations, such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy, and online via Google Play. Between November 17th, 2013 and April 3rd, 2014, Health Canada reveals that “Approximately 31,000 units were sold in Canada and approximately 200,000 units were sold in the United States.”
Google recently purchased Nest for $3.2 billion.
