Twitter arrives for Android tablets, limited to unreleased Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

As expected, Twitter has released a tablet-optimized app for Android, but has limited it to a slate that won’t reach Canada until November.

The version of Twitter for Android tablets was teased during Samsung Unpacked, where the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) was announced alongside the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The tablet is available today in the U.S. but won’t come to Canada until November, and will likely cost upwards of $600.

Twitter is working with Samsung exclusively at first, as the tablet-optimized app will only roll out to other slates from the manufacturer before becoming widely available for other OEM hardware.

Like the iPad version, Twitter for Android tablets lets you tap on a Tweet and have it expand to the right side of the screen. Web links, too, open within the app. Another net benefit, and something exclusive to Samsung users, is compatibility with Multi Window, which lets you use a browser and Twitter at the same time, for example. The app also introduces a new tablet-optimized widget and S Pen support.

It won’t likely take long for a working APK of the app to become available for other Android tablets, and we’ll update this post when it happens.
