TomTom promised to release an Android app in October and today they’ve delivered. The app is priced high, currently at a “limited time” introductory $49.99 for the US & Canada edition. The app only works for devices running OS 2.2 or higher and there seems to be more limitations as TomTom states it’s only compatible with Androids that have screen resolutions of either 800 x 480 or 854 x 480 – so no HD displays for now, but they’re “committed to supporting higher resolutions on an ongoing basis.”
As for the features, the 2.3GB app comes with the ability to navigate and create directions without a mobile signal, free updates to the latest maps, 2D / 3D driving views, Spoken street names, lane guidance and IQ Routes that give you arrival times. If you want to spend a few more bucks you can also complete an in-app purchase of TomTom HD Traffic and TomTom Speed Cameras.
