Rogers has come out with a new survey today called the “Rogers Innovation Report”, this will apparently be the first of many coming down the pipe as its aim is to “explore Canadians’ habits and views on technological innovations.”
The latest survey was conducted early December and found the following:
– 83% of those surveyed say that faster networks are on their way
– 79% of those surveyed expect that more people will use their smartphones to make purchases
– 85% of those surveyed said they are attached to their smartphone
– 7% describe themselves as “ridiculously” attached to their smartphone
– 22% say they “wouldn’t want to live without it” or “would be lost without” their smartphones
– 39% of Canadians say they take their smartphones to bed or have them on the nightstand
– 23% have the urge to use them in the bathroom
– 37% believe that e-readers and tablets will replace printed books
– 82% believe that devices will be connected and that one device will control systems inside and outside the home
There are some good numbers here – some certainly predictable for 2012. Specifically faster speeds as LTE has already been deployed by Rogers and Bell across the country. In addition, with devices coming equipped with NFC capabilities and mobile banking on the rise, 2012 will see Canadians embrace paying for products/services via their device. It will also be interesting to see what 2012 does for the Rogers/Bell/TELUS joint venture “EnStream” (Zoompass) – they will be going head-to-head with Google Wallet in early 2012.
2012 will bring big changes, but the real question is if you are part of the 23% that have the urge to use your smartphone in the bathroom. To celebrate this survey Rogers has produced an infographic… check it out below
