Back in 2008 Marta Piresferrerira sued Bell Mobility for wrongful dismissal and “assault and battery and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress”. She won the case and was awarded $500,095 in damages.
Basically the story goes like this: Piresferrerira worked for Bell Mobility since 1996 and in 200 she was terminated for poor performance, mainly due to her sales decreasing. Her supervisor, Richard Ayotte, was a real motivator and decided to yell, swear and thought physically pushing her would increase her performance. But when this didn’t work she was placed on probation and was required to report daily on her activities and hold bi-weekly individual meetings about her progress. Micro-managing at its best. with him. Piresferrerira never returned to work and took Bell to court and won.
Recently the Ontario Court of Justice ordered Bell pay the lawyer fees which totaled another whopping $225,000 in costs.
