There’s a Fury Road and McQueen Lane at Google’s self-driving car campus

Google Driverless Car

While not strictly mobile-related, there was no way we could not share this amazing map of all the roads that crisscross Google’s automated car testing facility in central California.

Known as Castle, the testing ground’s roads are named after famous drivers and cars from the past 50 years of television and film.

There’s Toretto Way, named after Vin Diesel’s Fast & Furious character, as well as more immediately recognizable callbacks like McFly Way and Fury Road. My favourite, however, is McQueen Lane, named of course after legendary actor Steve McQueen, who did many of his own stunts in movies like The Great Escape and Buillitt.

The map comes courtesy of Backchannel writer Steven Levy, who penned a comprehensive feature for the publication on what’s it like to be a test driver for one of Google’s driverless cars. Make sure to check out his piece if you have absolutely any interest in what Google with driverless cars.
