Samsung has just unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra, the company’s coolest folding phones ever. We’ve done some deep dives for both devices and shared their pricing and availability, but now here’s a detailed look at their specs to see how the new devices stack up against the predecessors.
We’ll start with the Fold devices, and right off the bat there’s a notable change this year: two Fold 8s compared to one Fold 7. Samsung introduced a new, wider foldable form factor with this year’s Z Fold 8, with the new Z Fold Ultra being a more direct successor to last year’s Z Fold 7.
Wideness aside, customers can expect some similar specs across all the models. Like the Fold 7, the Fold 8 Ultra sports an 8-inch, AMOLED inner display and a 6.5-inch AMOLED cover screen, both at up to 120Hz. The Fold 8, however, differs here with wider 7.6-inch inner and 5.5-inch outer displays, again both AMOLED and up to 120Hz.
On the inside, things are a lot more similar. Both Fold 8 devices sport the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and 12GB of RAM, compared to the 8 Elite and 12GB of RAM on the Fold 7. They all offer 256GB base storage and all weigh over 200g.
Cameras are the only other significant difference. The Fold 8 Ultra sports a similar camera setup to the Fold 7, but trades the 12MP ultrawide camera for a 50MP ultrawide. The Fold 8 sports 50MP wide and ultrawide cameras instead of the 200MP wide on the Fold 7 and 8 Ultra. For selfies, they all sport a 10MP camera.
Flipping (pardon the pun) over to the Galaxy Z Flip 8, there aren’t many differences between it and the Flip 7 series. The biggest change is that Samsung went back to Snapdragon for the Flip 8 instead of Exynos like the Flip 7. The Flip 8 is also slightly lighter. Otherwise, you’re getting the same displays, camera hardware, memory, storage, and more.
