Corus Entertainment is laying off staff at Global News and Corus Radio.

On Wednesday, The Western Standard reported that Corus is shutting down local news production in Calgary and Edmonton to transfer this work to its central Toronto hub.

A Corus spokesperson confirmed the news to the publication, saying the cuts are being made to “strengthen and sustain” its news divisions.

“To be clear, Corus is maintaining local news delivery in Calgary and Edmonton,” said the Corus representative. “While some roles have been impacted as we centralize production, we are adding additional roles to continue providing news programming in these markets.”

These cuts come amid declining revenues for the company, which led it to cut between 35 and 46 news jobs late last year.
