Acclaimed Toronto-based indie developer Hilltop Studios (Lil’ Guardsman) has unveiled its second game, Curse of Resthaven.
All told, it’s a marked departure from the award-winning Lil’ Guardsman. Where that game was a whimsical and comedic medieval fantasy take on Papers, Please, Curse of Resthaven is a gothic narrative-driven roguelike.
In the game, you play as the newly appointed governor of the island colony of Resthaven who must balance his leadership duties with his investigation into his missing niece. Making his tasks even more difficult is a seven-day timeloop which he must navigate to break the curse on the Resthaven.
In terms of gameplay, Curse of Resthaven will have you interrogating fully voiced NPCs, upgrading the town’s businesses, trading with merchants and building a deck of resource and companion cards to progress.
A release date has yet to be confirmed, but Hilltop says the game will come out sometime later this year on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and Mac. For more on the game, check out our full interview with Hilltop Studios.
