Although the Donkey Kong franchise is not widely known for its story elements, it has been speculated that this new addition to the series is a prequel to Super Mario Odyssey, as both games share similarities in their development teams and the key character of Pauline. These similarities have led to fan interest in the game’s story and possible relations to Odyssey.
Bananza producer Kenta Motokura and director Kazuya Takahashi, speaking with IGN, said that these theories and speculations should be questions the players consider as they play the game.
“It’s probably better you find out by playing it, then, rather than on a random internet forum!” said Takahashi.
