Update April 8, 2025 at 11:08 a.m. ET: Nintendo Canada confirmed to MobileSyrup that it will delay Switch 2 pre-orders to align with the delayed U.S. pre-orders. Canadian pre-orders will not start on April 9, and the official date is to be determined. However, Nintendo says the June 5 release date remains unchanged.
Walmart Canada has moved its Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date up by 12 hours, meaning it will be the first place many Canadians can pre-order the new game console.
Walmart Canada’s gaming Twitter account tweeted to let prospective Switch 2 shoppers know that its pre-orders would be launching on April 9, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. ET (midnight), while at the time of writing, most of the other retailers in Canada are launching pre-orders at 12 p.m. ET (noon).
On second thought… we’re switching it up by launching earlier!

Walmart’s tweet also says that due to demand, people will be allowed one console per household, and the pre-orders will be online only.
The next earliest pre-order will be in person at a GameStop store in Canada. That stores typically open around 10 a.m. local time, but your location may vary if it’s in a mall. If you can’t make it to a GameStop store, the retailer will have online pre-orders go live at noon on the 9th.
Best Buy Canada is only doing online pre-orders, and it will start accepting them at noon on the 9th as well. It will be interesting to see if any other retailers shift pre-orders to match Walmart.
Nintendo of Canada has a more robust pre-order procedure that requires customers to prove they’re gamers with their Nintendo ID. You can read more about it in our prior coverage if you’d like to attempt to pre-order that way.
