Nintendo seeking 10,000 people to test out mysterious new Switch feature

Unfortunately, no Canadians allowed

Nintendo has put out a call for 10,000 people to join the new Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program.

On its website, the company says those selected will get to test out an upcoming Switch Online feature, but it didn’t provide any further details as to what it might be. Instead, the site simply lists the criteria to join, and unfortunately, Canadians aren’t included:

  • You must have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership as of October 9th, 2024
  • You must be at least 18-years-old as of October 9th, 2024
  • Your Nintendo Account must be registered to one of the following countries: Japan, The United States of America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain

The recruitment period runs from October 10th to 15th, and those interested can register through this website. The playtesting period will then take place between October 23rd and November 5th.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more soon about this mysterious feature soon. Given the company’s silence and the fact that this feature is tied to Switch Online, it’s possible it’s related to new emulation support for the Switch. As it stands, Switch Online is the only official way to play to retro games from the NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and Sega Genesis on Switch. Maybe this new feature relates to games from other platforms coming to the service, like the GameCube?

Whatever it is, though, Canadians are sadly left out of the testing. That said, Canadian Switch Online members can take part in an early purchasing period for Alarmo, Nintendo’s new interactive alarm clock.
