Rumour: Bell to lay off 100s of Expertech employees before winter holidays

This could be Bell's second big round of layoffs this year

A post on Reddit claims that potentially 100s of members of the Bell Canada subsidiary Expertech are being laid off.

This comes after a tough year for the company, which voted in favour of a strike in April and then reached an agreement with Bell in early June.

Expertech is a network installer that focuses on fibre installations and currently employs around 800 people, according to its website.

The layoffs appear to be speculation for now since all we know is from a Reddit post, however, after reading all the comments, there are at least two people who have heard rumours of layoffs.

This follows Bell’s sale of The Source to Best Buy, which resulted in many people on the corporate side of The Source being laid off. Also in the late winter/early spring, Bell laid off thousands of employees, including hundreds of unionized workers.

BCE, the parent company of Bell also paid out millions in executive bonuses after missing financial goals in the spring.

MobileSyrup has reached out to Bell for confirmation but the company did not respond before publication.
