Apple’s watchOS 11 update is all about health

watchOS 11 will bring Check In to Apple Watch

Apple detailed updates coming with watchOS 11 at WWDC 2024, including new and improved algorithms and other health features.

Health features coming to watch OS include the ‘Vitals’ app for viewing health metrics during sleep. It can also alert users if metrics are out of line for them. Metrics include heart rate, wrist temperature, sleep duration, respiratory rate and blood oxygen level.

Apple also made improvements to its cycle-tracking software to help pregnant people. That includes tracking their gestational age, logging symptoms and a prompt to review their high heart rate notification threshold. Pregnant users can also monitor their mental health with monthly assessments.

Elsewhere, Apple Watch will be able to help measure workout intensity with a new effort rating that allows people to rate the difficulty of each workout.

The Apple Fitness app on iPhone and watchOS is getting better, too. Users can customize the Summary tab, and Fitness+ has been redesigned to help them make the most of the content.

watchOS 11 will get an improved Smart Stack widget that can show widgets as you need them, such as showing the precipitation widget when it starts to rain. Apple’s Check In feature is also coming to Apple Watch with the watchOS 11 update.

Apple also detailed special machine learning that can pick out the best photos to use for watch backgrounds.
