Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with massive focus on AI

At Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, the chipmaker announced its latest mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm says that OEMs like Asus, Honor, Oppo, OnePlus, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, ZTE and more will use this flagship platform.

The Snapdragon CPU sports one ‘Prime’ core with speeds up to 3.3GHz, five performance cores up to 3.2GHz and two efficiency cores up to 2.3GHz. The Adreno GPU sports real-time hardware-accelerated ray tracing with global illumination. It also has Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, and HDR Gaming with 10-bit colour depth.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will allow for text, voice and image inputs to form creative content and intelligent responses. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supports multi-modal generative AI models, such as an AI assistant based on Meta Llama 2. Further, the Qualcomm Sensing Hub can securely use your device’s data, such as your favourite activities, fitness level, and location, to give the AI assistant more personalized responses.

Qualcomm is also pushing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s AI-powered camera features. The device will offer a video object eraser by Arcsoft for video capture to remove unwanted people easily. The Snapdragon processor can power two always-sensing cameras in the front and back for easy QR code scanning, face unlock and more.

It also features a functionality called ‘Zoom Anyplace’ powered by Samsung’s 200-megapixel image sensor optimized for Snapdragon to capture multiple videos, object tracking and 2x and 4x zoom in 4K. This is something that’s probably going to make its way to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Further, it’ll allow for HDR photo technology from Dolby and enables the capture and playback of images with a greater range of colours, tones and shades to reflect the full creative vision of the photographer.

Of course, Qualcomm didn’t forget about gaming. The 8 Gen 3 will offer lifelike multi-source lighting and offer 240fps on a 240Hz display. It also offers the ability to upscale game scenes up to 8K external displays with Snapdragon Game Super Resolution.

It also supports 24-bit 96kHz lossless music over Bluetooth wireless technology with the new Qualcomm Expanded Personal Area Network Technology (XPAN) for uninterrupted lossless audio.

Qualcomm also says that is the World’s first 5G modem with integrated AI sensor tensor hardware with better speeds, coverage, mobility, and location accuracy.
