Those hoping that Apple will reveal a new MacBook Air at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) may be in for some disappointment.
According to a new report from Digitimes, Apple’s often-rumoured and still yet-to-be-revealed 13-inch MacBook Air refresh with retina display, won’t be revealed at this year’s WWDC.
The report specifically states that Apple has pushed back the assembly of the new laptop to third quarter of 2018, which indicates it likely won’t arrive until the end of this year. Supply chain partners are stockpiling parts until Apple gives the manufacturing go-ahead, says Digitimes.
Digitimes describes the upcoming laptop as a new MacBook Air, though it’s possible Apple could rebrand the laptop at launch. Other information indicates the new Air will feature an Intel notebook processor and retina display.
It’s unclear if the new Air will feature only USB-C, or a mix of USB-A and USB-C ports. Apple’s new line of Pro and MacBook devices have been heavily criticized for only featuring USB-C ports.
At last year’s WWDC, Apple refreshed its line-up of laptops and the iMac with an internal spec bump. It’s expected we’ll get our first look at new version of Apple’s various operating systems at this year’s WWDC, including iOS 12, macOS 10.14, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12.
We’ll be on the ground at this year’s WWDC bringing you all the news directly from the conference floor.
