In June 2017, Rogers launched the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund in honour of founder Ted Rogers.
To celebrate Canada 150, the carrier plans to award 150 scholarships to students and 150 scholarships to employees and/or their dependents. In the case of the student scholarships, the company has already chosen and notified the recipients, while, Rogers has not awarded the 150 scholarships for employees and/or their dependents and expects to do so by mid-July.
Student scholarship recipients will receive $2,500 per year over four years toward the completion of a university, college or trade program degree, for a total of $10,000. Whereas the 150 scholarships Rogers plans on awarding to its employees and/or their dependents are not renewable. The company will also award up to $25,000 to 65 different organizations.
Not any student can apply for the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund, however. These scholarships are for students who are involved with the company’s community partners. Only those students can reach out to the community partners they volunteer or work for can commence the application process.
Furthermore, only select organizations can apply for a community grant. Community grant recipients were chosen due to their dedication to youth and/or education, and are recognized by “internal regional committees at Rogers,” according to the company.
The telecom company plans on continuing to give out its scholarships next year and wants the program to grow.
Rogers uses organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada, Children’s Aid Foundation and more to identify the young leaders who receive its scholarships.
While the Ted Rogers Scholarship Fund does not accept donations directly, Rogers encourages those who want to donate to give to its community partners.
Lastly, Rogers wants its customers to know that the fund does not affect the cost of any of its products or services and therefore will not make any of its customer’s bills higher.
