Follow and discover popular comic books with League of Comic Geeks [App of the Week]

League of Comic Geeks app iPhone

Celebrate the Golden Age of superheroes with League of Comic Geeks, a free-to-download app that lets you keep track of your favourite ongoing comic books and even discover new and interesting titles.

With a database of over 130,000 registered comic books, the app is a great way to help with “pulls,” which are the upcoming titles that you plan on buying. You’ll be able to register specific issues or ongoing titles in general and have them placed in a “Pull List” to help you remember what comes out when.

Searching for a specific comic book issue will also give you information on the title’s plot, creators and release date. Quite usefully, Comic Geeks will even tell you how much it will cost to buy all of the issues you have pulled for the week.

Of course, while I mainly follow Marvel and DC superheroes (as you can see), they aren’t the only titles on the market. Archie Comics, Dark Horse, Image, and Valiant are just some of the 30+ total publishers whose titles can be browsed and followed. Weekly releases are also conveniently divided by regular issues, variant covers and trade paperbacks categories.

Comic Geeks also features a great social element to it. A “Community Pick of the Week” section on the home page will suggest one popular title, and for other recommendations, users can follow one another’s activities to see what books they’re currently reading.

Each issue in the comic database also has separate widgets to show how many people own it, as well as user reviews and discussion threads. If you’re on the fence about buying a particular book, this can be a great tool to help you decide.

League of Comic Geeks can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices.
