Alberta-based bank and crown corporation ATB Financial has announced that its Interac debit cards are now supported through mobile payments solution Apple Pay.
Other Canadian banks that offer debit cards as well as credit cards through Apple’s platform comprise TD, Scotiabank, RBC, Desjardins, CIBC and Bank of Montreal. Additionally, the platform — launched in May 2016 — supports select American Express, Canadian Tire, President’s Choice and Tangerine credit cards.

The debut of its debit cards on Apple Pay is in keeping with ATB’s push towards the digital future of banking. The bank recently launched a personal banking chatbot with Vancouver-based fintech startup Finn.ai to a test group of customers.
The bot allows users to check account balances, make transactions or ask customer service questions through a conversation with an artificially intelligent bot.
