Instagram rolls out livestreaming feature in Stories

Instagram is adding yet another feature to Stories, its Snapchat clone, with the global roll-out of live video.

Once the update arrives on their phone, users can swipe right from the Instagram screen which opens the camera app for Instagram Stories posts. Underneath the camera button, they’ll see a new toggle option for live video capture, along with a ‘Normal’ mode and the mode for gif-style ‘Boomerang’ snaps.

During the livestream, the interface looks very similar to Facebook Live, with live information showing how many users are viewing your stream along with the amount of likes. However, unlike Facebook Live, these videos won’t be archived and appear to self-delete immediately after the stream is complete.

In early November, the app added Boomerang, links and mentions to Stories, which was launched in August 2016 and now has over 100 million users per day.
