YouTube has announced its first-ever class of YouTube NextUp Canada creators, a group of 15 individuals that it believes will be Canada’s next big online video stars.
The selected creators receive a $3,200 CAD voucher to buy new production equipment and participate in a five-day Creator Camp at the newly-launched YouTube Space Toronto, where they’ll new video production skills and techniques.
Additionally, each of the winners receives an assigned YouTube Partner Manager, who will “help guide channel development, along with extensive networking opportunities with established creators,” according to the platform’s announcement post.
The 15 channels selected for the opportunity are listed below:

- Samurai Guitarist
- Bright n’ Boldly
- Bizzy Boom
- Chris Ramsay
- acapellascience
- Pankobunny
- The Hockey Movement
- NsomniaksDream
- BeatDrop
- Alexandra Villaroel Abrego
- Brittany Sarah
- Fraser Cain
- Shereen Ladha
“We received hundred of applications, proving that Canada is one creative country,” YouTube stated. “The choices were tough, but in the end we narrowed it down to these 15 Creators who we think have the potential to become the next generation of stars on YouTube. They come from all across the country, and their creativity and storytelling abilities jumped out from the screen.”
Toronto’s YouTube creator space opened in April 2016, joining a relatively small group of cities including LA, Tokyo, New York and Paris. The NextUp program is currently held in 11 locations across the world.
