There comes a point in a nation’s collective life where it must ask itself the tough questions. Questions like what is this country’s stance on gender and racial equality? And what is Canada’s place in the world?
On Tuesday morning, our country’s official Twitter account asked Canadians to answer this near impossible question: “Which Pokemon do you think is the most Canadian?”
.@Pokemon has been around in Canada since 1998! Which Pokemon do you think is the most Canadian? #PokemonSunMoon pic.twitter.com/yfC0HHisF1

The tweet came out shortly after Nintendo announced the three starters for the new pair of games in the franchise, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. (If you’re curious, the new starters are the owl-like grass starter Rowlet; Popplio, the water starter that looks like a cross between a seal and a dog; and, continuing the trend of fire starters being the best, there’s Litten, a feline-like Pokemon.)
Since the tweet was sent out, more than 780 people have retweeted it; some American publications have even tried to chime in.
Most have said that the beaver-like Bidoof, introduced in Generation IV, best represents the country, while others have given the nod to Generation V starter Oshawott (read the name out loud).
