The LG G5 is ready for prime time in Canada; the modular smartphone will officially be available across the country tomorrow. The G5 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and comes with a 5.3-inch IPS display, 32GB of storage, 4GB of RAM and is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor. An important part of the overall device experience is the accessories, or what LG has called the G5’s “Friends.”
Eunice Lee, brand manager mobile communications at LG Canada, said in a statement to MobileSyrup, “In life and in smartphones – Friends are everything. The LG G5 is a direct response to consumers’ smartphone priorities. The vast majority of Canadians use their mobile device as their primary camera – we kept this in mind when designing our newest flagship and are offering a flexible experience with the Friends.”
Currently three of the Friends accessories are scheduled to come to Canada: the LG 360 Cam, LG Cam Plus and the LG 360 VR.
The 360 Cam captures full 360 images and videos using two identical 13 megapixel lenses. The LG Cam Plus is an added camera accessory that adds analog controls, like a shutter, video recording button, zoom dial, as well as doubles as an additional battery for the G5, increasing the phone’s overall battery capacity to 4,000mAh. Finally, the 360 VR is LG’s first VR headset and offers 130″ display from 2 meters away.
Unfortunately, the price of each of the friends is not listed; instead, the company says their pricing will be determined by the carriers.
Missing from the news is the official release of the LG Rolling Bot, which is a Sphero-like robot that includes an onboard camera and microphone to double as a home surveillance and pet accessory.
The G5 will be available at Bell, Eastlink, Fido, MTS, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, Videotron and WIND Mobile on April 8.
Update: We have received Canadian pricing for the Friends. The LG 360 Cam is $299.99, LG Cam Plus is $99.99 CAD, and the LG 360 VR is $299.99.
