One Plus may never settle, but its fans will clearly settle for waiting in line.
Two weeks ago, the company announced that it would use a new invite system for its upcoming smartphone, the OnePlus 2. Last night, that system went live, and, at the time of the writing of this article, there are already 270,000 people waiting in line for their chance to purchase the company’s latest “flagship killer”.
Based on a combination of rumours and the company’s own frequent teasing, it’s believed that the OnePlus 2 will ship with a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel, f/2.0 rear-facing camera with laser autofocus.
Although not quite as ideal as simply letting people buy the phone, the new invite system OnePlus has implemented is supposed to alleviate a lot of the stress that was associated with last year’s OnePlus One launch. According to the company, this year there are 30 to 50 times as many invites to go around, and submitting an invite request is easier.
The OnePlus 2 will be officially announced within the next few hours, and you can be sure that we’ll be there to provide you with all the up to date news from the announcement. In the meantime, tell us whether you’re one of the 271,143 people that has signed up for the OnePlus 2 waiting list.
Update – July 28th: OnePlus has been busy updating its reservation list and the total number of people, or emails submitted, has now topped 500,000.
Update – July 30th: Interest in the OnePLus 2 continues to skyrocket. The reservation list is now occupied by over 1 million people. This is no indication of sales, just initial interest, but considering the OnePlus One has sold 1.5 million units to-date, this is progerss.
