HTC has been keeping owners of the One M7 GPE and One M8 GPE pretty regularly updated on the status of the Lollipop roll out. It’s been just over three weeks since HTC promised the update would be released “in a few days time” but we finally have confirmation that the update will hit devices starting at noon on Friday.
HTC’s product VP, Mo Versi, said on Thursday night that updates for the M7 and M8 had received approval and would arrive OTA at mid-day Friday. However, it looks like users on Twitter have already started receiving the update. They started posting photos of their system update screens as early as 10pm ET on Thursday.
It was more than two weeks ago that a request for changes from Google saw the Lollipop update for the M7 and M8 GPE delayed. Then, this past Monday, HTC said it was hoping to release Android 5.0 by the end of the day. With all these missed goals, it’s easy to see how users could get discouraged. The good news is that today’s update doesn’t just bring these folks to Android 5.0, but straight to Lollipop 5.0.1, a minor update released to Nexus devices on Thursday evening.
