Pebble launches beta channel for its Android app, promises improved connection stability

Pebble has launched a new beta channel for its Android app, promises new features (and the occasional bug) before its stable release counterparts.

The company took its time launching Pebble 2.0 for Android, delaying a few weeks after the iOS debut citing connectivity issues, but many of the faults have since been ironed out.

Now, with the beta channel, Pebble hopes to work through the remaining problems with a small group of testers. Users will need to join the Google Group and opt-in to the beta channel, but after that should see a new version of the app with these improvements:

  • Adds a new user interface for managing the connection to your Pebble
  • Adds support for automatically changing the color of the Pebble graphics based on the color of the connected
  • The user interface for side-loading Pebble apps is now consistent with the Pebble apps installed from the App Store
  • Fixes a bug where the time on Pebble would not update when the phone’s time zone changed
  • Fixes several issues encountered by some users when pairing or connecting a Pebble
  • Many other bug fixes
