Sony rolling out updates to its media apps, Walkman, Album and Movies gain more cloud integration

Sony’s_media_apps_update_rolling_globally_–_WALKMAN__Album___Movies_in_30secs___Blog_Portal_-_Sony_SmartphonesSony has begun rolling out an update to the media apps preloaded on its Xperia devices, including the Xperia Z and ZL, bringing a “more converged” experience to users.

The main change is the integration of cloud music, video and photos into Albums, Movies and Walkman, allowing users to store, stream and download content.

For example, the Walkman app now has Music Unlimited integration, so users can access Sony’s large streaming library without opening up a second (and separate) app. Improvements have also been made to the quality of streaming, which has traditionally be quite poor up to now.

The Album app has been giving PlayMemories Online support, which means that you can upload photos to Sony’s cloud storage service, either from a phone, a tablet or a WiFi-connected NEX camera, and have them automatically show up on your device.

Movies has also been given “seamless” access to Video Unlimited, and a new UI for easier navigation.

The updates will begin to roll out for devices running Android 4.2, which means Canadian Xperia Z users will have to wait a mite longer. The Xperia ZL, on the other hand, was recently updated to Android 4.2 and should begin receiving the updated apps via Sony’s Update Centre shortly.
