The CRTC is set to unveil the official “national code for wireless services” on June 3rd. Bloomberg is reporting that Jean-Pierre Blais, CRTC Chairman, will outline the new structure for all Canadian carriers to adhere to. Most, not all, of the proposed issues have already been implemented by the carriers, such as unlocking fees, making contracts easier to understand, and advertising monthly fees inclusive of taxes. However, one of the major concerns from wireless customers is the long-term 3-year contracts. Most Canadians desire to have a 2-year term with the same lower subsidy pricing.
Blais will be speaking at the upcoming 2013 Canadian Telecom Summit on June 4th at 10:00am. Hopefully he’ll go into greater detail of the specifics with customer feedback and stats.
