Now that Summer is finally here Canadians are in vacation mode. This means the carriers are busy putting various promo packages together, namely roaming. TELUS recently slashed their pricing, and both Rogers and WIND did the same. Now, effective July 5th, Bell will be coming out with a new structure for HSPA roaming rates. If you’re still on the CDMA network your rates will stay the same.
The breakdown is based on three zones, either Zone 1 that includes a whack load of places such as Australia, China, France and German. Zone 2 includes Barbados, Chili, Egypt and others. Zone 3 includes Afghanistan, Congo, and Cuba plus many more locations. According to the internal doc we received it says that Bell will come out with “Simplified roaming bundles” that will “offer greater value with a lower up-front commitment.” There will several bundled prices points for each zone in Voice, Data and Text (only for Zones 1 and 2).
Basically is bundles down to this:
Voice:
Zone 1: $40 includes 40 minutes (including roaming airtime, long distance), overage is $1/min
Zone 2: $60 includes 40 minutes (including roaming airtime, long distance), overage is $1.50/min
Zone 3: $80 includes 40 minutes (including roaming airtime, long distance), overage is $2/min
Data:
Zone 1: $40 includes 10MB of data (includes tethering), overage $4/MB
Zone 2: $60 includes 10MB of data (includes tethering), overage $6/MB
Zone 3: $100 includes10MB of data (includes tethering), overage $10/MB
Text messaging (Zone 1 & 2 only and is $0.75/text for pay-per-use):
– $15 gives you 30 texts messages, overage is $0.50 per text
– $30 gives you 100 texts messages, overage is $0.30 per text
– $50 gives you 250 texts messages, overage is $0.20 per text
New pay-per-use HSPA international roaming rates:
Zone 1: $2/minute for Voice, $8/MB for data (includes tethering). Texts are $0.75
Zone 2: $3/minute for Voice, $12/MB for data (includes tethering). Texts are $0.75
Zone 3: $3.50/minute for Voice, $16/MB for data (includes tethering). Texts are $0.75
Cruise ship/airplanes is $7/minute for voice, $16/MB for data (includes tethering). Texts are $0.75
Look for these changes to take place on Thursday, July 5th. Another pic after the break.
