Roam Mobility officially launches U.S. voice and data roaming service today

Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) Roam Mobility launched their U.S. voice and data roaming service today. They’ve partnered with T-Mobile and claim their roaming packages will offer Canadians “price reductions of up to 99%”. The company hopes this will “inject transparency in the industry”. Roam currently has a low end handset called the “breeze” that retails for $39.95, plus a mobile hotspot for $139.95. Where Roam will most likely make most of their dough is from directly selling SIM cards ($19.95) and from customers travelling to the US and activating a plan: Talk + Text + Data plans start at $14.95 for 1-day (includes unlimited talk/text plus 100 MB data) and rises to $99.95 for 30 days (includes unlimited talk/text plus you get 2,000 MB data). In addition, there are separate talk/text plans and data only plans (up to 5GB for $99.95)… something to really think about if you’re travelling south.

Emir Aboulhosn, CEO of Roam Mobility, stated that “We are able to offer fair and transparent pricing because we are the first mobile virtual network operator to directly broker a deal with a tier 1 telecom company over an international border. Canadians have been waiting for a socially-responsible cellphone service like this for a very long time.”
